Een privacybeleid is een verklaring waarin (een deel van) de manieren worden beschreven waarop een website de gegevens van bezoekers en klanten verzamelt, gebruikt, openbaart, verwerkt en beheert. Het bevat doorgaans ook een verklaring over de inzet van de website om de privacy van bezoekers of klanten te beschermen, en een uitleg over de verschillende mechanismen die de website implementeert om de privacy te waarborgen.

Verschillende rechtsgebieden hebben verschillende wettelijke verplichtingen met betrekking tot wat een privacybeleid moet bevatten. U bent zelf verantwoordelijk om ervoor te zorgen dat u de relevante wetgeving voor uw activiteiten en locatie naleeft.

Generally speaking, a Privacy Policy often addresses these types of issues: the types of information the website is collecting and the manner in which it collects the data; an explanation about why is the website collecting these types of information; what are the website’s practices on sharing the information with third parties; ways in which your visitors an customers can exercise their rights according to the relevant privacy legislation; the specific practices regarding minors’ data collection; and much much more.
